3D Museum
I agree with Marvin Jones' comments regarding this great book.
Here is what I wrote in a review back in Digest 1110:
Subject: Looking for good 3-d books? Go to Japan!
While on the subject of books and computer manipulation, I would like
to bring to your attention another great book which I recently
received from Japan, courtesy of photo-3d contributor and 7-p
cardboard mount distributor, Shilo Teshima.
The book is called "3-D Museum", computer imaging by Makoto Sugiyama
and it is illustrated with 3-d images of famous paintings. The book
itself is a work of art. While in some paintings, like Leonardo da
Vinci's Mona Lisa, the 3-d extension of the 2-d image is fairly
obvious, the majority of the paintings are abstract and such extension
is not obvious at all. Makoto Sugiyama is doing art of his own with
the help of the computer. I find his work fascinating and his 3-d
images captivating. I only wish that I could read Japanese to be able
to get some background on his work and understand the comments which
accompany each image.
This attractive book comes with a viewer, but the images are small
enough to be freeviewed. It's on sale for 3600 Yen in Japan. The
same publisher has a number of interesting 3-d books, some of which I
as able to get thanks to Shilo. If any of you in Europe/USA is
fortunate enough to visit Japan in the future, perhaps you should skip
the search for the $450 Realist 3.5 and get some of these wonderful
books instead.
