Are we designing a camera for the masses or one that would make
photo-3d subscribers open their checkbooks and donate Realists
to the local high-school? :-)

For the masses how about taking one of these 28-200mm wonder-lenses
and build in a splitter at the aperture to create two half-frame stereo
images.  The splitter would be activated by a switch, the lens would
communicate to the camera, and the film would be marked magnetically
as a stereo pair.

A prism would suffice to split the pairs, and the resulting color-spread
could be corrected on printing.

I have already in mind a prism activated without mechanical linkage...
