Thanks Mike K. for a good summary of action shooting options:

And some of these will more likely give you PSA award-winners than
others! The Australian legend Allan Griffin pioneered action 3D with
twin SLRs, longer lenses and wider bases (PePax? Ouch!). RBT is not a
neat tidy version of #1 since it is limited to normal base. In most
cases the action is far away and twin SLRs with longer lenses and wider
bases is the way to go. I have seen Griffin's amazing award-winning
pictures, have read his many articles in Stereoscopy on selecting/
testing twin SLR systems and have tried to duplicate his work by
shooting in Sea World with some minor success (only acceptances, no
awards!) -- George Themelis
