More about APS Format Stereo Cameras

In response to Paul Klines comment: "Are we designing a camera for the
masses or one that would make photo-3d subscribers open their checkbooks and
donate Realists to the local High-school? :-)"

My intention would be to design for the masses, and like any well-marketed
product, there would be more than one style to choose from depending how
serious you are and how deep your pocket are. I do not think anyone who has
devoted so much time refining their skills stereographing and mounting with a
Realist or other comparable camera would simply quit using it in favor of a
new system. This camera would be designed for people who have no idea what
stereo base, parallax or homologous points are. Much like a Realist, the
images will look great for near/midrange objects and will look like a flat
mural for object far away. I would imagine it would be possible to configure
close-up and Hyper adapters for those who insist on getting more technical,
but the emphasis would be on the common consumer.

Another reason for targeting the masses is one of simple economics, there
simply aren't enough current "3-D'ers" around to support a new product. Sad
but true, what do you suppose Reel 3D's customer base is? Maybe 20-40,000?
And with that many "avid" enthusiasts they are able to run their business
with just the two of them, for the most part at their leisure taking copious
amount of time "away from the office" to attend darn near every big 3D event
on the planet!

You've got to make it simple, and you've got to make it readily available
for the masses at a price they wouldn't mind paying to just try it out at
first. For the majority of folks who simply want to record and event, a
1990's Realist type camera would be just fine!

   That's what I think.
