All kidding aside ...

George,

I have been taking such delight in the cameraderie of this forum, the
discussions of technology, of discovery, of invention, of opinion, that
it didn't matter to me what someone's gender was. When you mentioned that
you thought I was a man from my name, it just made me stop for a minute
and wonder whether you thought it made a difference, that's all. No big
deal.

On another topic: I agree with you completely that a slide should be
judged not only for its content but also for its quality of mounting. I
have been a projectionist from time to time, and in our club we had the
rule that if it was out of focus, the projectionist should try to
compensate, but the horizontal and vertical adjustments should be set
once and continue throughout the showing. And you are absolutely right
that a quality slide should be mounted correctly, and if not, it
shouldn't be given special treatment. Occasionally an outstanding slide
was mounted incorrectely (would you believe pseudo?), and we then went
into our "teaching" mode and gave the maker a place anyway. (We all put
our glasses on upside down and loved the slide!) We had a small informal
club, lots of fun; I miss it....
