I totally aggree with the Doc on the issue of selling products to the 3-D
community. Beleive it or not, most of us don't really buy as much 3-D as we
may think, and there are definately not enough of us to support a company on
just our sales of one product.
I do believe that there can still be enough interest in the general public
for a company that sells 3-D products to servive, but the important factors
for a viewer and image set up is going to be licencing, and that is a major
undertaking. Traditionally 3-D has had rises in activity due to new
technologies. There are some new technologies these days, and there is a
chance that they will servive, and maybe even make a lot of money. Just
remember that the man that started the magic eye company may have made over
a billion dollars, and definately made at least a few million, but as far as
I know he is nolonger producing anything due to lack of public interest.
Many (MANY) stereo related products have come out and failed misserably.
Lets not forget the 3-D Sega video games, Virtual-Boy, Toshiba 3-D video
camera and many other things. A lot of which were actually really cool
products. I have seen a stereo slide viewer that viewed medium format
slides that were shot with a special camera that made the image fill your
entire field of view. Supposedly the guy who made those filed for
bankruptcy. You and I may want to buy such items, but are we willing to pay
enough money to cover developement, advertising, and production costs?
