EMDE mounts and me

The original EMDE mounting system used non-adjustable 'nibs' to hold your
slide chip in place. It is almost impossible to make a bad mount using
this system as the 'nib' were set in just the right place. The masks are
folded over and set in either a glass-less frame, or between two
pieces of glass in an aluminum binder. I learned to mount using this
system and have had great success with it. I still use it for certain
type of shots. (I use a variety of different mounts, including
cardboard, depending on the application.) EMDE makes the only Medium,
and Close-up aluminum mounts that were in recent production. I highly
recommend them for both beginners and experienced users.

Dennis Sherwood and others have posted here a couple times that the 'classic'
5-Perf EMDE mounts are out of production. The dies are worn out. Dennis
has had new dies designed using the same adjustable tab system that is
used on the 7-Perf EMDE mounts. Unlike the original EMDE system that had
a non-adjustable window, these new mounts would allow adjustment. Dennis
has tried to raise money to get these new dies made, but has not had
success.

As of Dennis' last posting, there was some old stock of 5-Perf Medium masks,
glass-less binder frames, and binder frames for glass. The 7-Perf mounts
are still in production and are available. The reason for asking the list
what type of mounts you use, etc. was to see if anyone would want the new
design 5-Perf mounts if they were manufactured. If EMDE is going to stay
alive it is important that you support them. Send your E-mail expressing
your mounting preferences to Dennis via the list or privately at the
address he gave previously.
