3D competitions and judging

Allan Carrano, I see your point. You want to be the judge of your
own work and don't want to shoot 3D for the judges. But who are
the judges???

Judges are people like you and me. You cannot outguess them or
shoot the pictures they like because you don't know who they are
and what pictures they like. Shoot and exhibit the pictures
that you like and hope that we all (except for Clifford!) share
a universal feeling of that is good and what is not. Even if
you don't agree with the common undersanding of good 3D
photography, tomorrow you might be a judge too and you will
have your chance to do your part in shaping this understanding.

I see judging in action every month in Detroit. The system
is not perfect (it cannot be!) but, on the average, it works!

Common Allan! Play the game! You are not taking pictures
for the judges, but for yourself. The judges are just normal
people like most of us! You should consider their judgement
but don't have to accept it! -- George Themelis

PS. In my first PSA competition exactly one year ago, I got
all (4) rejections. This was my best work ever, including
the slide that won "slide of the year" in the regular Detroit
club meetings. When I saw the slides that got accepted, I
recognized the fact that most of them were better than mine.
(Most, but not all! Remember, the system is not perfect!)
Since then I have tried not to outguess the judges but to take
better (= more imaginative and more creative) pictures. I
feel that my work has improved and the judges appear to agree...
on the average... ;)
