I was also resisting being drawn into this and was succeeding until this 
paragraph!   As someone who majored in photography and then moved into computer 
graphics and has deliberately pursued the fine art aspect of both fields over 
commercial/studio types of images (which I having nothing against by the way and
enjoy looking at!), I consider myself an artist who, by definition, creates art.
My definition of art is a work that invites people to see the beauty/power of 
something they might have otherwise passed by; changes or causes them to think 
about their perception of the world around them; or suggests ideas for the 
future.  This is what I love to do and hopefully some day I can make a living 
doing it!
