Sorry, I had not seen this cross-viewing!
Being a total 3D addict, I like to freeview similar patterns like
the keys in my computer keyboard. The keys will then appear to be
*larger*. For the longest time I thought to myself: "Wow! look
at this hyperstereo effect!"
Well, it turns out that there is less disparity than looking at
the keys w/out free viewing. Which makes it a hypostereo. Many
people confuse hyper- with hypo-stereo because the hypostereo
looks *bigger* that real life, while the hyperstereo looks
smaller.
Crossing the eyes, increases the disparity and makes it hyperstereo.
I realized this just the other day when I was freeviewing two
identical cups. Parallel viewing makes them less deep (when they
are placed at a distance equal to the distance of the eyes there
should be no depth because each eye sees the same picture!).
Cross-viewing makes them look much deeper.
Sorry for the confusion! That's what happens when people (i.e. me!)
don't think before they post!!!! -- George Themelis
