Variable viewer illumination... one solution

An easy and cheap solution for variable illumination to compensate
for different levels of ambient illumination:

- Carry a second bulb of different rating.

A good combination for a battery operated viewer are the 0.8A and
0.5A halogen bulbs. The brighter 0.8A bulb is better for office
illumination, etc., while the dimmer 0.5A bulb is better for darker
rooms and it has the advantage that it is dim but still white since the
bulb is used at its maximum rating.

Incidentally, slide projection works well despite the loss of light
through the polarizing filters because of the darkened room and dark
adjusted eyes. Some people actually recommend dimmer over brighter
bulbs (say 500W instead of 750W in TDC projectors) because the very
bright bulbs aggravate the ghosting situation!

Commercial Plug: I carry both bulbs for sale either as-is (with clear
glass envelope) or modified (frosted glass envelope for diffused light
and shortened to fit in Red Button, VM-D, etc.) These bulbs will
run with batteries. No transformers etc. needed!

For AC viewers I carry the 75V/6W bulb which, when used with some
caution, is the best match of the original 80V/6W bulb and 2-fstops
brighter than the other option, the 120V/10W AC bulb.

Please contact me for prices, etc. Thank you! -- George Themelis,
