I suspect you're probably right, & that there are a number of different
"front ends" that calculate depth maps based on different cues (disparity,
motion parallax, etc.) & that at some point these estimates are combined
into a single depth percept.  It may be that the sensation of depth from
stereo differs in degree rather than in kind from the sensations you get
from motion parallax or even from monocular depth cues.
