Viewing high contrast projected slides

Last night I gave a stereo slide show of images from this year's
Burning Man festival. Two of the slides were of the man at
night. The man is a forty foot wood figure with neon lights.
The man is burned at the end of the festival.
The slides looked fine in a viewer but had a lot of ghosting
when projected. When these slides were shown I was quick
to apologize for the ghosting. (okay, okay, I know...
 A. you should never apologize for your slides, and
 B. if they aren't good then don't show 'em).

But there are always exceptions to the rule and I learned
something new. My stereo naive audience taught me.
"Hey," someone said, "just squint your eyes."
Sure enough, squinting eliminated the ghosting while
preserving the stereo effect and made the slides quite
viewable. As one viewer said, "If we're going to wear
these silly glasses why not ask us to squint too."
