Yes, usually you have to cut straight between two perforations. Many
people use just a pair of scissors with good results.

Depends on the kind of mount you are using! Realist-format mounts usually
allow you to push the slides down and they will be aligned. There is a
little vertical play but if you push both down they sill be aligned. If
you have any horizontal freedom you should center them over the apertures.
This goes for Realist-format mounts. Full-frame crossed mounts should not
be much different. That will get you started. Of course, if you want to
know "the rest of the story", get yourself the mounting video (is it out
