I'm another newbie, and if two rolls are enough of a track record, a film
cutter is really a big help. My first use of the thing was fairly smooth
and became practiced and confident before even the first roll was mounted.
I don't think I'd have been nearly as comfortable with the results, nor
obtained anyhting like the consistancy of size and (more importantly)
alignment that made mounting an experiment in examining what looks good
rather than sheer practice in technique. (It's a cheap trick, but when a
rotund fellow points a camcorder at you, the finest revenge is to frame the
responding shot so that his ample belly hangs over the edge of the frame
just like it hangs over his belt...)  Get a film cutter.

Now I just gotta justify buying a travel iron just for heatsealing slides...
