H.C. McKay's "Principles of Stereoscopy" written in 1948 gives a good
overview of the do-it-yourself stereo photography right before the Realist
era. It is interesting to compare this book with the 1953 second edition
titled "Three-dimensional photography" written in the peak of Realist
photography.

The impression that I get is that in the 30s and 40s the activity in
stereo photography was about as low as it is today. The deep low in the
late 60s and 70s has something to do with the public saturation in the
50s.

Wide screen movies and color television could not have possibly
killed stereo photography! It's like comparing apples and oranges.
Why didn't it kill regular 2D photography???
