I've used film with speeds from 25 to 100. I dislike film grain
in my photos so I've mostly settled on Kodachrome 25 (for the
fine grain and less saturated colours than Velvia 50).

Outdoors, under sunny conditions, I shoot at 1/50 f11 which
works well, though you can get some motion blur if you photograph
kids (who are physically unable to hold still) or other moving
things.

To shoot indoors with K25 you need a pretty powerful flash. I
now have a Metz 45 so I can shoot at f5.6 or f8 indoors (its
GN is 148ft with 100ASA, so 74ft with 25ASA, which gives a reach
of 9ft at f8).

If you don't have a powerful flash and want to shoot indoors
Sensia 100 (Fuji) is fairly fine grained for its speed and the
colours are nice for people photography.
