Re: I'm serious.

>I am truly happy with natural light backlit viewers.

The light is not the issue here... the lenses are! There is a very
expensive viewer with superb lenses and no internal illumnination.
I find internal illumination useful because you are not limitted to
sunlight and location and get consistent color.

>What is it that everyone gets out of using the fancy stuff?

"Viewing pleasure", ablility to see sharp slides loaded with details.
IMO, there is a fundamental difference from 2d when it comes to viewers.
In 2d slide viewers are used mainly for preview for projection or printing.
In 3d the viewer is an end to itself for the majority of stereo
photographers.

>So to everybody who thinks I'm going to change my tune
>down the road, sorry...

Remains to be seen... Good thing these digests are being archived!

>(I thought the damned things made my transparencies look horrible.)

Warning: As I have stressed in the past, good viewers do make bad slides
look horrible! Bad slides can be better tolerated in not-so-good viewers
where details cannot be seen. So, after you orvercome the sticker shock ;)
get ready for another shock (seeing your "good" pictures as they really
look!) -- George
