RE: JoeFeldman thanks me for explaing Sunny 16 Rule and says he also
prefers to think, but often looks to "a technical solution to the
problem."
As I said before in this forum..the Sunny 16 Rule is not just some rule
of thumb that came from somewhere. It was devised by Jack Tupper of the
Kodak Research Labs (who I served with on ASA committees) from the
equations of illumination on a film plane, and the constancy of earth
illumination from the sun. IT IS GOOD ENGOUGH to test light meters. If
they don't agree with the Sunny 16 rule under the stated condtions they
are defective..OR NOT LIGHT METERS. eg. modern mattrix meters in cameras
sample a scene in several areas and then use a look up table based on
varied subject matter..an itegration scheme. So not to be used to
compared simple reflection meter or Sunny 16 rule (which if might also
agree with on an average scene?) BobH
Tupper did not call it the Sunny-16 rule..this got named by someone in
describing it in a photo magazine.
