Lincoln asks if the Imax movie is coming out in Orange California next week.
I don't know but did find this interesting review of it at

Looks like a nice 3d movie. Can't wait to see it when it comes out in
Montreal. Whenever that will be, because they haven't announced here yet.
>>L5:The story takes place 100 years in the future. It is a story
of life in a unique city - a city in space. Through a fusion of dramatic
live action and high resolution computer graphic imagery, audiences will
explore first-hand the
architecture of this orbiting community, and experience such 3D highlights
as the
actual impact of Comet Shoemaker-Levy on Jupiter, a thrilling flight through the
Candor Chasma of Mars, and a landing on the surface of a comet. The film
features
dazzling planetary imagery from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, with computer
graphic sequences from ExMachina (Paris) and Fujitsu (Japan)Ltd. The city is
called
L5 which stands for La Grange Point. There are several such points located
on the
Moon's orbit, equidistant from the both Earth and Moon. They are points at which
gravity is perfectly balanced, and as minimal energy to launch away from
them, they

L5: First City In Space (1996) Length TBD. The technical and structural
design of L5
and its surroundings have been completed by Pat Rawlings of SAIC in Houston
Texas. Other work is starting at Fujitsu in Tokyo on a scene of the surface of
Enceladus, a moon of Saturn. Produced by Imax Corporation in IMAX 3D.
Co-producers: Graeme Ferguson and Toni Myers.<<
On a slightly different topic but still related to Imax, on the topic of
the eye able to discern flickering of projection lamps. The original thread
discussed the flickering of 3d (or 2d) projection, of still images and not
movies. Now I wonder if it would be as detrimental if the projection was
a moving picture. This also brings to mind another aspect. I remember seeing
a 2d Imax movie a couple of years ago and it was done in HD (or high definition
, I think). The movie was one of the most realistic movies (in terms of
actually looking real life) movies I have seen to date. I had a vague
recollection that it had a much higher higher frame rate, I confirmed my
suspicion when I checked on the web site that mentions that the HD Imax movies
are done at 48fps compared to the regular 24fps Imax. Now I don't know if they
are using higher definition film also, but all I can say is that the HD Imax
movie had this real sense of reality that my brain picked up. The point I am
trying to make is that 24 or 48 fps, the eye supposedly cannot see the
individual frames and sees it as smooth motion, but at 48fps the brain (and
eyes) sense a
more real picture. Now the ultimate Imax movie would be a 48 fps 3d Omnimax
movie. (Omnimax uses a spherical dome like screen instead)
