I just wanted to present a slightly different set of "stereo pairs" here...

Analogy:

We were gathered to meet and talk about 3-D.  A mosquito got in and
turned out to be a hornet.  It was a real pest and was doing some
stinging - including some not everyone saw.  The moderators turned
down the lights, opened the door and turned on the porch light.
When the hornet was outside, they just closed the door.

Now, a lot of the people in the room don't know what the hubbub was
about.  That's because they didn't see a lot of the messages that were
either kept off the distribution or e-mailed to individuals.

There was some pretty rough stuff there.

It wasn't just "I don't like/want/need fancy viewers."  Imagine
something really bad - they were worse.

One reason the "...flamers and unstable/antisocial individuals...
...disappear..." is that the moderators quietly take the person
aside and thump him.  We never know what happened, just that the
"problem" seems to have stopped.

The moderators act silently and do a tough job well.

There was a lot to this last unfortunate incident we luckily did
not see.

The best rules to follow if this happens again are:
-Don't encourage.
-Tell the moderators.
