I'd try a Kodak. I've taught several kids (and snapshooter adults) to
shoot stereo with them. Just go out on a nice sunny day, load the camera
with Sensia, preset the camera for 1/100th @ f/16 and hyperfocus at 10
feet. Then all they have to do is wind, point, shoot. Folks usually find
the viewfinders easy to use, the level helps them, and they don't have
to worry about cocking the shutter or double exposures or pushing in the
release button as with a realist. Light, manueverable, and simple to
operate, they have pretty good glass and give very good results with
very little effort. You can find them for $100-$125, just make sure the
shutter is working smoothly. You will always be able to resell it should
you want to move on to another camera.
I would _not_ recommend a FED. Because of the autoexposure, you have no
control over aperture, and thus no control over DOF. I know a number of
stereo photographers who have purchased/used one who regard them as
expensive door stops.
