Thanks John, I'm always open to information and eager to learn.

I thought though, that we were discussing a system which uses
the focus in an image to encode-decode where the object is
relative to objects which are in focus.

I don't dispute that most of us have at least two eyes, nor that
we use them to see (in most cases).  Nor do I dispute that one
can use two lenses to take two pictures to construct a 3-D illusion.
Nor do I have any problem with the theories and explanations for
the fact that this method appears to work.

Quoting authors who are writing about something else does not
seem to me to be a relevant point, no?
