To follow on the argument thread ...
The 5p format is not based on aestheic consideration. It is the
result of measurement and reluctance to add accomodations to the
simplest of designs. i.e.:
Take 35mm film and two lenses. Place them at a separation which
closely approximates the "natural" stereo base of human inter-occular
distance. Decide not to do anything complicated with the film
path or film advance. Consider not "wasting" film.
The reulsts are essentially 5p.
The same logic lead to having 7 pairs of images in a ViewMaster reel.
So, 5p is the result of "economic$" rather than design aesthetics.
It is not a "feature," but a limitation. Use it well!
