Allan, may I remind you that cameras and films were designed by
engineers, not artists.  In that respect, I can assure you that
every format is a result of "economic$" and not design aesthetics.
BobH will be able to tell us more, but full frame format originated
as double the standard 4p and 35 mm film came about by dividing
70 mm film, etc.

Let me remind you how this argument started.  Elliott mentioned
that people in photography expect to see 7p.  I replied that 5p has
its uses as many subjects are nicely framed in a square frame.

What is your conclusion?  5p is a limitation so we should not be
using 5p cameras?  Everything is a limitation.  I try to make the
best out of it.
