re: Nord Stereo Projector

I used a Nord stereo projector for a number of years before
I replaced it with a TDC 716 in order to project 7 perf and
to get the extra brightness of the 750 W lamps.
The Nord uses 2 500 W lamps. It is made of sheet metal
instead of castings like the TDC, which makes it appear to
be not quite as sturdy, but it is much lighter. Most come
with 4" lenses which give you a bigger picture in short
rooms than the 5". The polarizers are between the carrier
and the lenses, so that the slide cannot depolarize the light.
The condensers are too small to accommodate 7 perf, even if
the carrier were modified. The carrier in mine would
sometimes not force the previous slide out when the next
was inserted when using very thin mounts like the EMDE
glassless, but worked fine with cardboard or thicker mounts.
I sold mine for $250, so $175 appears to be a good deal.
It makes a good low priced alternative to the TDC and other
stereo projectors, providing you use 4 or 5 perf only.
