Tim's macro needs

Hi Tim,
I use both an FM2 with the 60mm macro AND the converted Nimslo for
close-up work, and as John suggested, it really depends on your subject
(whether it's moving or not...or frozen stiff!;-).
The Nikon will, by far, give you the most control over exposure,
stereobase, and framing precision. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to
carry around a tri-pod, slide-bar, and camera. This is where the
converted Nimslo (known as the Teco-Nimslo) comes in handy.
The Teco-Nimslo is auto exposure and oversides to f5.6 when you attach
a flash. This can be quite annoying in macro work, where you want as much
DOF as possible. It works quite well, of course, without a flash in bright
sunlight. I've made a few further modifications to my Teco, such as
correcting the exposure, which I found was underexposing by one stop
(consistantly), by adding frosted tape over the sensor (took two
hole-punched layers of frosted tape to make the camera think things are
darker by one stop, therefore now opens to a proper f stop). I also made a
device that shows my the exact plane of focus with the 6" close-ups. This,
for me, is a must...I can send you the design as an email attachment if you
like. At the moment I'm working on a way to override the flash mode to
consistantly give me f22 with flash.
If you need more help let me know.
:-)jamie.
