I don't know that I agree with it, however. At least in the Stereo Club of
Southern California competitions, humor often draws attention to itself and gets
high marks from judges who have OD'ed on images of shiny fire engines and Half
Dome. One of our members, an actor named Dan Gilvezan, specializes in tabletops
(and more recently, computer-generated pictures) that are outrageous visual
puns, and he is almost guaranteed to walk away with top scores whenever he
enters a competition. One of my favorites of his was "Ham Radio," a construction
with knobs and a tuning dial on a succulent looking roast ham.
