Realist leak. Last word?

>Even when it comes to his favorite camera, he acted surprised and
>happy to discover the origin of the infamous light leak, whose existence
>and cure have been known to the stereo community for many many years...
Is that true, or what? Just yesterday I received a letter from David
Starkman (of Reel 3-D fame) with a copy from "3-D News", the newsletter of
the Stereo Club of Southern California. An article in July 1981 "Plug That
Realist" by Tony Alderson, has the best description and solution for the
problem. The article comes with three fine illustrations (2D) for those
who have hard time visualizing things.
The article concludes: "Charles Piper is the source of the technical
information in this article. Any ambiguities are entirely my own. For a
modest sum, Mr. Piper will install a gasket on your Stereo Realist. For a
slightly higher charge, he will clean up the mess if you botch the job."
After re-reading your contributions, I realized that many of you mentioned
the same cause and offered the same solution... It also came to my
attention that Ron Zakowski offers a kit for sale to fix the light leak.
I guess my only contribution was to be able to see the light coming out of
the Realist. Even this was not my idea, but Greg Wageman's.
A SASE will get you a copy of the article (where is the www when you need
it? ;) ;) ;)) and the results of my latest leak statistics.
Happy leak repairing everyone! -- George Themelis
