Well where do I start on this ongoing dialogue regarding basically internet
, snail-mail and spreading the "wor3d". Dr.T gave his points and Larry
Berlin did likewise. Personally I would have to agree with Larry's points.
At the same time I would like to say Dr.T made his personal preferences
clear and that ultimately if it works for him that is what matters as he
has said himself regarding other topics. Having said that thou I will give
my2cents.jpg.<u no where 2 find it.
George I am using a 486 DX33 with a 33.3 modem and I find it very enjoyable
and speed wise I find it fast enough. Heck I find that in general it's
faster to find files on the internet than on my own computer! Regarding 3d
images on the net even with the smaller sizes, the images and info is quite
amazing. Of course it spans from bad to very good. Question. Do you
subscribe to the 3d magazines? Of course you do. Now tell me, in general
are the 3d pictures really that good? Heck I find the images in general on
the net to be of much better quality often times. Just think of the images
in the mags as stereo prints and the monitor as the projector! Information
wise there is a wealth of info out there. Of course the images on the
Internet are not as good as photography, but you shouldn't short change it
for that reason. Do you own a television set? Why? The images are no where
as good as in the theatres and yet computer monitors are capable of
displaying superior images. You see life is a compromise and we have to
work with its limitations as you say. We don't dismiss things in life
regarding other matters, so why dismiss the Internet. Now I am not saying
if you strive for perfection, of course the Internet and computers is out,
but in the context of getting more people into 3d and even offering
your services this is where I think you would be more effective. Larry
makes good points and it occured to me also, that alot more people own
pentiums than red buttons and maybe very soon there will also be alot more
3Discovers! You said yourself you were not very effective in the back pages
of Stereo World. Let the world know your there. You took the first step
with this wonderful forum here on P3D, now the world is your oyster!

Now for my personal side on how I got into 3D. George I have been hooked on
3D since a kid as you know, but did not actively persue it and was doing it
on and off thru the years. I fooled around with 3d using regular 2d cameras
as most do, then I bought a Pentax beam-splitter around 1988. I wasn't sure
if they still made when I bought it because when I originally had inquired
about it, I think it was around 1986 but did not buy it at that time
because it had to be special ordered as was case 2 years later.
Incidentally it had to be special ordered from Vancouver. (when was the
Pentax B.S. actually introduced?) I also inquired about Stereo World from
the NSA by snail mail around 1980 and they where forthcoming about how
to subscribe to it. I ended up only buying the book Tips & Techniques for
Better Stereo Pictures and not subscribing Stereo World, because I never
did get around to it. I would go on like this for quite a few years,
wandering on my own and reinventing the wheel regarding 3d. I discovered
freeviewing by accident among other things and wondered surely others must
know about it. I didn't know about Realists or the 3d Kodaks. All I knew
was the VM and that 3d movies were popular in the 50's and some bits and
pieces from the occasional 3d magazine article or comic. So what started
getting me back into it? Believe it or not it was the Internet. When I
finally got onto the Internet thru Compuserve initially, the first thing
I looked for was 3d among other things that interested me. I, like
countless other no doubt have (a big understatement) find this is the most
amazing thing since slice bread or was it the printing press? Still even
with this the people were far away and sure it was fun and educational
visiting homepages and seeing what was out there but after months of that
I subscribed to P3D and started reading it. This and the www got me more
and more into it as I never was before. Finally I learned on P3D that the
NSA were going to hold the 96 convention at Rochester. I got more info
from Bill Davis and from the Web site and decided to go. I checked on the
internet for the locations of the hotel and travel arrangements and finally
went. Guess what? I finally subscribed to Stereo World at Rochester and
when I got back home I started posting to P3D! Now I am ready to get rid of
my cheap viewer and get me a 3d projector and the works. Ha just kidding, I
am still keeping my cheap viewer.

Anyways what I am trying to say is what rekindled my interests in 3D was
the internet and more specifically P3D. Before that I couldn't be bothered
to send away for a magazine and the internet made me go to Rochester to
subscribe to it! The internet is a wonderful medium for spreading the wor3d,
but is only one part of the equation. Good publications and tireless work
by all to show what 3d is, using photography, computers or dare I say
holography all compliments one another. On this note I will close with
a compliment and special thanks thanks to John Bercovitz and Bob Wier for
keeping this place open and to those who passed the torch to them before.

P.S. Sorry George for posting a long winded message, but I had an extra
hour today to write it! I don't know if it is longer than Larry's yet,
but without him quoting you I think mine is longer. I saw your reply to
Larry but since I was half way thru I didn't want to trash it. I am not
directing this specifically to you but to all the Georges in the world.
