Marvin,

You are absolutely right that the identity of the maker of a photograph 
cannot be anonymous in competition unless the photograph completely lacks 
any distinguishing features (i.e., style). In a local camera club, the 
members pride themselves on their style, and proudly display it. A slide 
with no style (i.e., nondescript) doesn't usually win. So I say, let the 
maker be identifiable if necessary, but let this knowledge not influence 
the judge, and may the truly best slide win!
