and I'd like to add that I find Bill Battle's post both inaccurate and
inappropriate.
Inaccurate in that the very example he cites of digital imaging are in
fact low resolution images (magazine and print applications are
typically run with a final resolution of 155 lpi or less), and even at
that the so-called "professional high cost/high resolution" cameras
which capture them are extremely limited as to image size, resolution,
and many are three-pass instruments which are limited to still life
photography.
The fact is that at present, inputing, manipulating and outputing
digital imaging with resolutions which approach those of current film
technologies (well over 4000 dpi) is at best a cumbersome, expensive and
time consuming task which is certainly not within the perview of the
average photographer or film maker. Lower resolutions are far less
troublesome and for some real opportunities for efficiency and
excellence in some design and production applications.
Will this change in the future? Likely so, yes. Everything does. I
however choose not to wait the 10 years Bill projects for the digital
cameras to become as affordable and as capable as our current 50s relics
loaded with our ancient Kodachrome.

IMO it is inappropriate and unproductive for anyone to make a personal
crack such as: "Man......You don't get out much" on this forum.
Can we offer our opinions and engage each other in open discourse
without resorting to such snide and distasteful personal remarks?
