Unfortunately, "the laserdisk," should it arrive, wouldn't be all that much
better than the VHS, even if someone did mercifully break the arm of the guy
adjusting the interocular. As proof, check out the laserdisk of "The Mask." The
main problem is simply that NTSC does not reproduce anaglyph colors very well.
There have been a number of attempts to do it, from the broadcast conversions to
the video releases of several of the '50s classics (and not-so-classics). In my
opinion, they have all been failures -- most giving no 3D effect whatever,
others giving only a feeble and occasional hint of it. Unfortunately these awful
anaglyph attempts are the only experience many people today have ever had with
3D movies, and as almost happened to Mark, it has succeeded in turning them off
to the whole idea that 3D movies could be anything more than a bad joke.
