Well, we all know that the best viewer is the "supercharged pinsharp"
Themelisized Red Button (T'dRB) model. But, let's see...what might
be the best *available* equipment, given that the factory that cranks
out these little gems is reportedly experiencing significant production
delays...with no relief in sight because the chief laborer must seek
out a detox center specializing in P3D addiction! ;) ;) ;) ;)
Seriously, do we really want to recall all the P3D stereo photography
evangelists who, for whatever reason, are still showing their work
with $3 steal the light viewers? Since taking my first stereo photos
just over one year ago, I have introduced many family members, friends,
and even a family of 5 total strangers on an airplane to the wonders
of 3D slides, with nothing but a cheap viewer. I can't think of one
who has failed to thoroughly enjoy the new and wonderful experience;
most are awestruck and mesmerized by the images. One might ask "how
many have become 3D photographers themselves?" To this point, zero
(although I think there are still a few among them who might do so in
the future). But how many have been turned off from stereo photography
because of poor image quality? I am sure the answer is also zero.
(Although, admittedly, some have screamed "headache" when viewing *hand
held single SLR twin 2x2s*--never with Realist images.)
This is by no means intended to rekindle the entire T'dRB vs. $3 plastic
debate. Would I love to have a T'd RB? Certainly, who wouldn't (Cliff
and financial considerations aside)? Will I hide my work in a dark
closet until the day I have one? Certainly not! I will continue to go
forth and spread the word, and I encourage others to do so as well.
Sadly, I am sure the recruitment rate into the world of stereo imaging
will continue to be abysmal, regardless of the choice of viewer. Even
the intense glare of the halogen bulbs in a supercharged pinsharp T'dRB
will not burn through the obstacles caused by the convenience and other
factors that have been discussed here before.
Paul Talbot, losing weight and brain shrinking already because Dr. T's
diet leaves less thoughts for food and food for thought
everyday!
P.S. Dr. T, if I promise to leave my $3 viewers home, do I improve my
chances of getting a T'dRB viewer? ;}
