Cameras, viewers and more!
I admit I have been posting some "weird" opinions about stereo
cameras lately. The fact is that I am less emotionally tied to my
equipment than most stereo photographers. If the Nimslo will do something
that the Realist will not, I'll use the Nimlso. If the Belplasca takes a
picture in a way that I find better over the Realist, I'll use the
Belplasca. I like the Realist because it was my first camera, I know how
to use it well and how to repair it and I can depend on it. How many
cameras do you know that you can run over with your car and not harm
them??? Or drop them to a cement floor, pick them up and use them?
Viewers are a different story. I believe that the "viewing part" of
stereo is being neglected by the photographers and the companies. Here
you have a company like RBT that has produced many good cameras but no
decent viewer. Today there is no good affordable viewer being made new,
either Realist or 2x2 format. We are relying in the good viewers from the
50s because that's the best that was ever made.
Gabriel's joke has people asking seriously if they can convert 3Discover
for Realist format slides. The advantage of this particular viewer is
that it will view a filmstrip like the good old Tru-Vue. If you want
a viewer with decent lenses that works for Realist slides fed one at a
time, then take the $3 viewer, pull out the lenses and install a pair
of my Wollensak lenses. Then you will have a $3 viewer with $30 lenses!
Sounds like something that an ignorant communist economy would have
invented, the perfect match for your Belplasca!!!! ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
The good old George Themelis
PS to Gabriel: I am glad to hear that it your posting was a joke
Gabriel. Because I did not see any smilies after _my_ name!!!
