Maximum Depth Philosophy

Larry, I understand where you are coming from and I agree with your
general guidelines and conclusions.
But, you will agree with me that impressing the public is only one
reason to take and exhibit stereo images. Personal satisfaction is the
other.
I have taken many "stereo" pictures that are flat as a pancake (example:
shots of Athens from the top of Acropolis with my Realist). I find
these very satisfactory because they are good photography and I am
seeing them with both eyes as in real life. My primary goal as a
photographer is to record pictures that satisfy me first. Selected
pictures will be exhibited. These flat stereo pictures are for my
viewer only. They will not work in projection or a computer. I will
select different images for different media.
The point I would like to make is that stereo pictures with less than
maximum depth many times are more satisfying than hyperstereos. I have
seen stereo shows with all images shot with twin SLRs and have gotten
tired and sick (in the real sense) of seeing everyting with increased
depth. Don't do it! Less, in many cases, is better than more!
