I've had the same reaction when I was editing film a few years ago. I think it's
because there are a lot of very subtle clues in a scene, especially one such as
you describe, that give it away -- the part of the actor's hair, the side of his
shirt his buttons or his shirt pocket are on, etc. You can usually pull it off
in a movie or video for a shot or two because the audiences' assumption that
what they are seeing is happening in "real time" will help cover a multitude of
tiny discrepancies.
