Not being very experienced in such modifications, I assumed
it would be easier to limit the winder stroke than to extend
it but if extending it is reasonably easy, that's obviously
a better way. Plus this would give enough stroke to tension
the shutter so the kludge I mentioned wouldn't be necessary.

Well, since this would be making a filmstrip of my *own*
slides I don't feel that the original cassette cost would
set a limit for the cost of my own production. That is, I
would be prepared to pay a bit more for a personal
filmstrip (within reason).
It's probably 20 - 25 years since I played around with
slide-duplicating to any degree but as I recall, buying
the duping film in bulk and loading cassettes from it
wasn't excessively expensive. I should check on the
costs now though. (I still have the duplicator and bulk
film loader).
