The latest finds up here in the Norhteast
Location: Home Depot: Nothing at all....boo hoo!
Location: Massachusetts: Somerville Lumber (sort of a sad attempt at Home
Depot)
Plano #3700 storage trays polypropolene- approx capacity 170 EMDE/ALBION or
any mount with EMDE binder, 180 RBT, 400 + cardboard or aluminum foldover.
7.49 ea
Plano Model 974 "Stowaway"- contains 4 Plano #3700 drawers in a nice pull out
access cabinet...no front door on it , you can see the trays. If you stacked
your 3700's you could get 5 of them in place of the cabinet that holds
4.....for those with space considerations. on a mangers special at 19.99
ea...best value on the 3700 that I found.
Location: K-Mart: Somerville Mass
"attention K-Mart Shoppers...time to go fishing!" everyone...here is the
latest for you all trawlin' for 3-D storage. Go to the sporting good section
Plano #1232 this is a smaller version of the #1234 below, but it carries
three trays, sideways, and has room for at least a couple of viewers....nice.
costs 17.95 (not sure this is right, this store was a mess)
Plano #1234 "Guide"- this "mission control"" sized unit holds three #3700
trays, has ample room for a few viewers and 3-D stuff, I like this for the
trip when you want to bring stuff to mount.... #3700 trays are stored
sideways....not my idea of long term storage, OK temporarily while
travelling,....not on an airplane though....too bulky to carry on...unless
you are going to make it the only thing you carry on, you may have to put it
somewhere other than overhead.
Cost 32.97
Plano #1148- Neat little unit, fixed carrying trays back to back as you
carry it like a briefcase, if you have it on a table, one tray is face
up...the other face down....two latching mechanisms hold the lid down on the
trays. Did not get capacity, a little smaller than the Plano #3700....no
polypropolene symbol on this one though. Cost 12.99
"Attention K-Mart Shoppers...In the tool and automotive section....
Stack-On DS-18 Looking for lots of storage space, don't need to carry the
stuff out of the house, not ultimately concerned about the polypropolene
factor?.... this is a neat unit.
Eighteen drawers, each has four fixed compartments... enough vert & horiz.
room to keep slides in KODAK slide box sized boxes.
Holds llllots of slides...no polypropolene designation...drawers have about
1/8in spacing above and below each other...meaning that air and dust can pass
through here. Still a nice unit. Cost 17.99
Still looking for the elusive Flambeau 0900....checking my local
supplier...oh look...theres the Loch Ness monster again...this time with an
entire bound set of John Bercovitz' writings on 3-D in its mouth (in archival
bindings nonetheless!)....bet Nessy aint going to surface for a while......
he/she (fair, fair...its the 90s here people!) is all set...thats fathomous
and good in d-d-d-epth reading....later Jon Golden
