Two comments here: First, while it is true that stereo photography
requires more time than 2d photography I think that this also contributes
to the appeal that it has for me. The more time I spend learning and
doing something, the more I enjoy what I am doing. Second, I don't think
that stereo photography takes that much time, especially once you settle in
standard mounting technique. It only takes me one hour to mount one roll
of film. It is a personal observation that most people (Mike K. might be
an exception) have plenty of time to burn and could definitely gain a lot
of satisfaction by taking up stereo photography.

This is true. Most people are not photo hobbiests. But there are a lot
of people around who are photo hobbiests. Many more than stereo
photographers. Many of those could make good canditates for stereo
photography. The ideal canditate for me is a person which is a beginner or
serious amateur, especially if he/she is still at the stage of being
unsatisfied with 2d photography in not being able to reproduce the beauty
of the original scene to their satisfaction. Some of the worse canditates
are serious/professional photographers who have learned to work with the
limitations of 2d photography and feel that 3d is very restrictive in what
it can accomplish. This is not a rule, just a personal observation.
