If it wasn't my hobby, I don't know if my *current* stereo methods would
be acceptable to me. The thing I have least of and is most valuable
is time. When I was a kid, I had more time that I knew what to do
with. I now seemingly have none to even breath with. I don't think
I'm unusual in this regard. Stereo picture taking (plus mounting
etc) is time consuming. "Convenience" isn't just gravy, it's a
requirement. The time I spend with stereo photography means that
*other* things that I do, have to be that other field's version of
point-and-shoot technology to gain the time I "spend" in stereo
photography.
Most people taking 2D pictures, IMHO, aren't photo hobbiests, they are
people who want pictures, and they are taking the route that consumes
the least of their most valuable commodity -- their time.
