shooting V-M originals
Stereo World has made reference to how V-M originals have been taken over
the years. March/April 1984 and May/June 1996 come to mind.
Sawyer's publications "View-Master Dealerscope" and "Sawyer's News and
Views" had regular articles (and photos) about View-Master reels being
shot around the world. I don't know who has an archive of these
publications.
Gruber himself had a custom-built rig that produced 2 pairs of 45 mm x 50
mm images on 4" x 5" film. Current V-M photographers use horizontally and
vertically paired Nikons. Apparently, Charlie Van Pelt uses SLRs paired
vertically base-to-base with 28 mm lenses. This produces a "normal" image
on a 21.6 mm x 24 mm area of the frame, equivalent to V-M format.
A 1964 issue of "Sawyer's News and Views" shows V-M photographer Fred
Bennion shooting with what seems to be a horizontal pair of SLRs
(Exactas?) and has slung over his shoulder what looks like a Busch
Verascope F40. The 7-perf format of the Busch would seem a reasonable
format for V-M originals.
