Electronic imaging could make stereo photography very convenient. 
Automatic exposure, no developing, and, perhaps, automatic registration
of the left and right images.

Images could be archived on CD-ROM, copied easily, and sent immediately
via the internet.

It might even catch on.  If people start to want VRML in stereo, then
web browsers will fuel a huge market.  The larger the market, the faster
the price comes down.
