melting chips

Well, I just melted my sample RBT mount with my best chips in it.:(  
I forgot which side was supposed to go towards the light!

I noticed that I was also melting some of the slides in my albion 
mounts.  What am I doing wrong?  I learned from the RMM tutorial that
I should have put my chips in the other way (natural curl towards the 
mount), and that Maybe leaving the slide in for more than 30 sec is 
a NoNo!

P.S. Has anyone tried installing heat absorbing glass between the bulb
and the condenser in the stereo projectors to protect the slides?
