slr's and close up
just my two cents worth
i have found when time does not permit a tripod, that a SLR with a motor drive
and grid screen in the viewfinder, in my case a nikon f3 with md4 and the
changeable viewing screen that has multiple grids visible(i forget the exact
letter designation that nikon gives this optional view screen)
anyway with the motor drive one can continue to view through the camera without
having to move the camera away from your face while advancing the film
the grid screen allows you to sight something in the subject to maintain
alignment reasonable well
i have often used a 55mm micro(macro) lens and have taken alot of hand held
shots at 12 inches or more using this equiptment.
i use manual shutter speed and hand held meter for settings
i have used this same set up using even 20mm ultra wide lens for large subject
like cars etc and if nothing in the background moves it works!
i often get firmly planted on my feet and rock from one side to the other for
interocular spacing. with the above mentioned projects often 2 inches can be
quite effective. again that grid screen really helps prevent mis-alignment
problems.
this also draws alot less attention that setting up tripods etc
one last note, if using flash, do not move it with camera or weird shadows occur
have flash mounted in same place for both pictures.
