3d bear mystery

" I put it on the glass of a flat bed scanner and "took a picture", then
moved it slightly and "took a picture", then composited them via Photoshop. "
I must really be missing something here. How would moving an object on the
scanner bed give an different aspect of the object? Wouldn't it give an
identical picture, moved an inch or so from the previous image? Did you
also swivel the object?
I have been having lots of fun with my HP4C, and would never have thought of
scanning objects with depth, since photocopy machines have very poor
resolution of objects off the glass.
I cannot get proper illumination of objects that are not flat on the
glass...they get very dark when off the glass by a few millimeters.
