Re: APS vs. CDs

Disclaimer:  I know nothing about APS... 

but I see a common thread here... Older systems are replaced by 
newer ones many times trading quality with convenience and lower 
price... Those who resist the change die a slow death while a 
whole new generation grows up accustomed to the new systems... 
I bought my first stereo system when the CDs were out.  Never 
owned a single LP in my life.  Examples from photography: Plastic 
base films taking the place of glass plates and 35 mm format 
taking the place of larger formats (old-timer John B. still calls 
the 35 mm "miniature format"!)  These changes were, at least at 
first, at the expense of quality... but don't hear many people 
complaining today.

In terms of stereo photography, nothing has come to replace the
color slide film 35 mm stereo cameras first introduced in 1947.
It will fun to see what happens when an alternative film format
comes along and makes the 35 mm film obsolete... What is going
to happen to stereo photography as we know it today?  As Alan
Carrano said a while ago, they will have to pry my Realist
camera and red button viewer from by dead fingers!  Unless, of
course, if I like the new system and become a convert, as
H.C. McKay did many years ago switching from glass B&W negatives
to Realist Kodachrome!!!
