I've had some moderately good results by sticking the camera on
a tripod and either using "time" or "bulb" with a locking cable
release. I just open the shutter, and then walk around with a strobe
lighting up the house with multiple flashes, much like the "painting with
light" mentioned here recently for cave use. Due to the extended 
exposure, the lights come out nice and bright, and you can somewhat
regulate the amount that the house shows by using more/less flashes at
a greater/lesser distance. Just be sure you don't get between the
house and the camera - your silloette (how do you spell that?) looks
very ghostly!
