Re: Projector from Hell
Sam, the TDC 116 is my favorite projector (my REAL projector) so be careful
what you say about it! ;)
First, regarding the carrier, you say that there is nothing to keep it from
flopping around when in use. The carrier should have an attached bar at
the bottom which fits in the body and prevents the carrier from sliding
horizontally. There is nothing really (except for a little clip and a
tight fit of this bottom bar) that keeps it from sliding vertically but
when you push the slide in and out you are only applying horizontal
forces. If you are missing that piece from the bottom, you can make one
and attach it, but I don't see why this bar should be missing.
Regarding polarization, I tried hard to think of a situation that is
compatible with the three characteristics that you mentioned (1. one image
is not polarized, 2. turning the glasses sideways cancels that image, 3.
placing the filters in front works OK, 4. using the back channel works OK
too)
Bulb misalignment or slide misalignment will not affect polarization.
If only 1 and 2 were happening, I would say that one filter was positioned
wrong, but that's not in agreement with 3, 4. If 1, 2, 3 were happening I
would say that something in the beam's path was rotating polarization by
90 deg. (highly unlikely) but not in agreement with 4. There is no way to
have a slide not work in the front channel and work in the back.
Great puzzle but I see no solution!
George
