The 15 Dec 1996 camera show at the New Jersey Meadowlands had a
variety of stereo items for sale. Prices seemed higher than several
years back, but not much buying was going on a the elevated
rates. Here are some examples.
Realist 3.5 $185
Realist 2.8 $375
Colorist I $350
Colorist II $500
Belplasca $1000
FED $300
There were also several Sputniks among the offerings of Russian
dealers. They also had a collection of old Leicas, but my suspicians
were aroused when by the large number which bore Nazi
eagle-and-swastika markings. When I found one with the name of
Heinrick Hoffman engraved on the bottom (Hoffman was Hitler's
personal photographer!), my suspicians peaked. I talked with the
dealer, and he rather freely admitted that the whole camera was a
Russian copy. This included a "Leica" stereo camera in gold trim, in
a fitted wooden case.
The Russians are now producing a new version of the panoramic camera
the "Horizont", now called the "Horizon", black plastic with "Made in
Russia" on the bottom. They wanted $350.
The Leica with macro-stereo attachment was also a reproduction, made
by FED in Kharkov, and asking $1000.
